GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – Rocky Top Furniture is known for its custom made rustic white cedar furniture, much like what is seen in many Gatlinburg homes.
So, a couple of weeks after fires ripped through the Smoky Mountains, Rocky Top Furniture stepped in to help.
“We were looking for a way that maybe we could help. We realized that there were a lot of people in the area who were uninsured, a lot of renters. So we partnered with a local group, Baptist Association and we donated about $60,000 worth of furniture to donate to the folks who were uninsured in the area,” Rocky Top Furniture Vice President of Sales Brad Lewallen said.
Rocky Top Furniture also has a store in Pigeon Forge, so there was also a personal connection for many employees.
Lewallen says helping is what the company stands for, and they were able to quickly find people who needed what they were giving.
“A lot of these people were lacking the basic things in their home we’ll take for granted. We’ll go home tonight and have our bed to sleep in and they literally had nothing,” Lewallen said. “It’s a basic human need, and we were glad to meet that need.”
The company says it is also involved in the rebuilding process in Tennessee.
Rocky Top Furniture credits RR Donnelly DLS Worldwide with donating the freight truck that was used to take the donated furniture to Tennessee.
