HOUSTON – Bed bugs are tiny, grotesque, crawling vampires.
They can drive you out of your mind and drive you out of your house.

In November 2016, Wilfredo Torres, of Houston, said his apartment became infested with bed bugs that were eating him alive every night in his bed.
“It was bad. I mean, they were crawling up the walls, in the bed, on the sheets, in the living room and I had bites all over me,” Torres said.
At 53, Torres is disabled.
Born with a severely deformed right foot, he has undergone multiple surgeries to repair his legs and his feet.
A former inventory manager with the Environmental Protection Agency, Torres can no longer work and was forced to throw out all of his furniture because of the bed bug infestation.
“I have a television set and a kitchen table and this air mattress,” Torres said.
For almost a year, Wilfredo has been sleeping on an air mattress, and every charitable group he has contacted for help has turned him down.
“It’s been very, very hard,” Torres said.
So with nowhere else to turn, Torres called Spencer Solves It.
Right away we contacted Southwest Surplus, a very unique furniture store/liquidator, where they specialize in selling used hotel furniture from luxury hotels.
“We get the bulk of our inventory from four- and five-star hotels,” said Phil Wynterton, owner of Southwest Surplus.
Now with help from Southwest Surplus we are giving Torres not just a bed and mattress, but a top-of-the-line Serta Memory Foam mattress worth $2,000.
And that’s not all.
We are also giving Torres a polished maple night stand, a huge maple desk, a granite and maple dresser and a plush sofa chair and a full size sofa.
“Oh my God, I can’t believe this, I am speechless right now,” Torres said.
“All I have wanted all this time is a bed that will keep me from sleeping on the floor, but to see all of this, wow,” Torres said, starting to get emotional.
Now Torres will never sleep on a hard floor again.
We at Spencer Solves It want to thank both Serta and Southwest Surplus for all of their generosity in donating so much to transform Torres’ apartment from an empty space to a luxury home.
