Event center near Tea open after complete remodel – Sioux Falls Argus Leader
A former event hall near Tea has been renovated and is under new ownership with a Sept. 14 grand opening planned.
Prairie View Event Hall, which holds 450 guests, is open and has a full-time event coordinator, Ashley Pick. The business is owned by Courtney and Tony Axtell of Sioux Falls, who have experience in the entertainment business with ownership of Empire Productions.
âWe saw a demand for venues,â said Tony Axtell, general manager of Prairie View. âThe opportunity just arose. We were in the right time and the right place.â
The opening of the event hall, formerly All Occasions, comes after six months of gutting and refurbishing the 25-year-old building.
During the remodeling process, the event center staff consulted caterers to find out what is important in event facility kitchen designs, Tony Axtell said. Feedback showed caterers needed space so the Axtells tripled the size of the on-site kitchen during the remodeling process and provided a private entrance for catering employees.
They also ripped out 9,000 square feet of carpet and 2,000 square feet of tile in the banquet hall, replacing it with an epoxy flooring that looks like marble, he said. With bathroom remodels and adding a bridal suite and groomâs room, the hall is comparable to other new venues in the area, he said.
âWe get compared to the two new barns that went up,â he said. âPeople see a lot of value in the space. They still get a beautiful space.â
The exterior of the building will get a fresh coat of paint, a new parking lot and some fencing to make events more private.
Prairie View has all but 12 Saturdays booked for weddings in 2018, he said. Wedding parties or corporate events can hire their own catering and entertainment companies.
âWe want everybody to have a stress-free event whether itâs a wedding or a corporate event,â Tony Axtell said.
The event center also will host corporate events, smaller conferences and trade shows, date nights and private shows. âWe really want to be a facility thatâs utilized 4-6 days a week.â
The Prairie View building started in 1992 as Big Country Bar, went through various changes and had been All Occasion, owned by HyVee for the last 15 years. The Axtells took over in March with a long-term lease.
He is also looking at expanding with an additional location, he said.
âThere is a venue shortage, weâre already working with developers to build another larger facility. There is a huge demand.â
The grand opening at Prairie View will be 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 14.
