3 local educators picked for Governor’s Teacher Cabinet – WBBJ-TV

JACKSON, Tenn. — Three local teachers have been chosen to serve on the first Governor’s Teacher Cabinet.

Lance Morgan, Jessica Murray and Cathy Whitehead are among 18 Tennessee teachers selected.

Morgan teaches math and science at Union City High School. Murray is a sixth grade math teacher at Three Oaks Middle School in Dyersburg. Whitehead teaches third grade at West Chester Elementary in Henderson.

The cabinet will meet quarterly with Gov. Bill Haslam and Education Commissioner Candice McQueen, according to state officials.

The purpose of the cabinet is for the teachers to relay real-time information from the classroom, advise on policy considerations and provide a line of communication to their schools and communities.
