RALEIGH — North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper’s entire Cabinet has now been confirmed by the Republican-controlled state Senate.
Senators completed the process Thursday by voting separately to confirm Ron Penny as state revenue secretary and Eric Boyette to lead the Department of Information Technology. Like the other eight Cabinet secretaries already confirmed, the floor votes backing Boyette and Penny were unanimous.
Confirming a North Carolina governor’s Cabinet is new — the General Assembly approved a law last December subjecting those department heads to formal scrutiny by the Senate.
Cooper sued to stop Cabinet confirmations, calling them unconstitutional. But a three-judge panel upheld the law in March.
