Another White House statement is just Cabinet members praising Trump – Salon

In a statement released by the White House on Monday, President Donald Trump’s Cabinet members issued gushing words of praise in response to his new hardline immigration policies that are more anti-immigration than anything else.

The statement was titled: “What are they saying: Praise from the President’s Cabinet for the new immigration priorities,” and included bloviating rhetoric about how Trump is saving the nation.

“For decades people have pleaded with their government for a lawful system of immigration,” said Attorney General Jeff Sessions in the statement. “Unfortunately, over the last several decades respect for the rule of law has broken down and immigration enforcement has been sacrificed for the sake of political expediency. This has made us less secure and it cannot stand.”

Sessions touted Trump’s plan and said it “will work.”

“Perhaps the best result will be that unlawful attempts to enter will continue their dramatic decline,” Sessions said, despite his previous claim that there has been no respect for the rule of law for several decades.

Elaine Duke, the Department of Homeland Security acting secretary, said the administration’s new immigration measures will close “loopholes” and that they “will inevitably better secure our nation.”

“This will take money for more ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] officers, more federal prosecutors and more physical barriers,” U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross wrote. “That will be money well spent!”
