The Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development has assembled a new team that will marshal resources from the commercial real estate sector.
And a commercial real estate broker from Louisville has been enlisted to lead that team in Frankfort.
John Fischer, owner of Fischer’s Real Estate Brokerage & Betterment Haus LLC, has been named director of community development for the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development. He started in the newly created position earlier this month.
Fischer, who was assistant director of Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Government’s Economic Development Department from 2003 to summer 2011, said he will be in charge of state programs tied to commercial real estate, using his industry experience to assist on projects within the cabinet. Fischer said the new team will assist on projects attracted by other departments within the cabinet but also will focus on finding and attracting business and jobs to Kentucky through its connections in the commercial real estate world.
“We will be building a new professional team with a new mission to create jobs through a focus of encouraging investment in all commercial real estate types, all across Kentucky,” Fischer said in an e-mail.
In an interview with Business First Monday, Fischer said commercial real estate is tied to basic economic development in the state, whether it be a relocation, expansion or a new project. Companies need buildings and land and are looking to buy or lease space when they look at Kentucky, he said.
By focusing on the commercial real estate component, he said, the cabinet expects to create new jobs for Kentuckians and new opportunities for the state,
