Heathrow: Theresa May allows Boris Johnson and other Cabinet opponents to speak out against third runway – Telegraph.co.uk

Gatwick released a video on Monday to demonstrate its claim that a third runway at Heathrow would result in 70 times more people being under new flight paths than if the West Sussex airport were expanded.

According to the animation some 278,000 people would be overflown with a new runway at Heathrow.

This includes areas that have not been under flight paths before, such as parts of Kensington, Notting Hill, Hammersmith and Shepherd’s Bush.

Gatwick added that just 3,800 people would live under new flight paths if it is given the go-ahead to build a second runway.

The airport’s chief executive, Stewart Wingate, said: “The difference in noise impact between the two schemes is stark.

“We have to decide whether to ignore the views of a million Londoners whose health will be affected by constant noise, or expand Gatwick, the environmentally responsible option where we can cap the number most affected by noise.”
