Why Christie isn’t in Trump’s cabinet just got more intriguing. Here’s why. – NJ.com
This week began with a surprising claim by ex-White House counselor Steve Bannon about why Christie was passed over for a cabinet slot — and equally aggressive counter-claims by the governor.
After an embarrassing tape of Trump boasting of using his celebrity to commit what sounded like sexual assault surfaced on the weekend of October 8, Christie was allegedly warned by Bannon that he needed to aggressively defend Trump.
Bannon told CBS News’ “60 Minutes” that Christie was told to get on Trump’s campaign plane at 11 a.m. the following Monday to help defend Trump and that “if you make the plane, you make the team. … He didn’t make the plane.”
Christie, on Monday accused Bannon of fabricating that exchange from whole cloth.
“That conversation that Mr. Bannon references in his interview never happened. Never had any conversations with him,” Christie during an appearance on the PBS NewsHour with Judy Woodruff.
“This, I suspect, is his last 15 minutes of fame. And that’s fine. I hope he enjoys it.”
