Room & Board, a popular furniture retailer, is coming to Dallas – Dallas News
American-made modern home furnishings retailer Room & Board plans to open its first Texas store in Dallas later this year. The retailer which has a cult-like following already has a large online customer base in the Dallas area.
The Minneapolis-based furniture retailer is combining two spaces on McKinney Ave., just south of Knox, formerly occupied Nest and Design Within Reach. The popular Nest home and design store closed last in December after ten years. Design Within Reach moved into NorthPark last year.
Room & Board has a devoted clientele and its furnishings, which include accessories, often land in home design magazines including Architectural Digest. The company is 35 years old, but has grown slowly. It operates 15 stores in eight states and Washington, D.C. It’s opening a store in Portland, Oregon this spring and San Diego this summer. It has a strong online business that it started 10 years ago and ships nationwide. It charges a national flat-rate delivery fee of $129 and local fee of $89, both for unlimited items.
In addition to the Dallas store, which is scheduled to open in December, it’s looking at Austin and Houston, the company said in an article in Furniture Today.
Room & Board says more than 90 percent of its products are made in the U.S. using both American-made and imported materials. The company works mostly with small U.S. manufacturers.
The founder of Room & Board, John Gabbert, is the son of the founder of the Gabbert’s Furniture which closed its Dallas store in 2006 after more than 30 years.
