SAN ANTONIO — Cody Rackley, a Saltillo High School graduate and University of the Incarnate Word student, won the showroom display design contest sponsored by Kitchen Designs by Giovanni, a kitchen and bath remodeling company in San Antonio. The contest was held in conjunction with UIW’s Department of Interior Design.
Rackley’s design was unveiled in the company’s showroom last week. Rackley will graduate in spring 2018. He received a $1,000 scholarship from Kitchen Designs by Giovanni. Nadia Pidgeon, a visiting professor in interior design, was in charge of the competition at UIW.
Company owner Giovanni Marotta sponsored the contest in order to provide a real-life learning opportunity for design students to interact with project managers, designers and vendors.
“Our industry needs to cultivate new talent, especially because the growth in San Antonio is creating a big demand on builders and remodelers. I wanted to do our part by providing the opportunity for UIW students to have actual experience in both design and in working with a small, entrepreneurial business,” said Marotta.
Rackley says his favorite thing about the project was actually being able to prepare the specifications and work with vendors to bring the project together.
